Dorothy McCormick Field Day 2019!

Another Dorothy McCormick Field Day is in the books! This past Friday, students cheered on their classmates as they matched up in good-natured competitions from bouncy castle relay races and water balloon tosses to tug of war. All students from Kindergarten to grade-six were divided into two teams, the blue team and the green team, representing our school colors. Our preschoolers had a blast playing games and participating in face-painting. All enjoyed snacks and popsicles. The day concluded with the annual dodgeball tournament between fifth and sixth grade. The sixth grade took home the crown with a convincing win. Our parent volunteers were as wonderful as always, encouraging students and making sure all had a good time.

The day began with an opening ceremony, featuring prayers from students, a preschool parade, and awarding the annual, Dorothy McCormick Award. Since 2001, MAA has presented The Dorothy McCormick Award to a sixth-grade girl and sixth-grade boy who possess the spirit of long-time MAA Gym Teacher, community member, and true Franciscan spirit, Dorothy McCormick. When selecting the recipients, Coach Shannon and the teachers take into consideration motivation, readiness and willingness to step up without being asked, kindness, consistent effort and positive contribution to the life of our school. The names of the recipients are engraved on nameplates and placed on the Dorothy McCormick Award plaque, which is on display in the foyer of the Main Building. We are so proud of this year’s recipients.
